Our recent stay at Mullaway Beach just North of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales was complete bliss. The cottages were called “7th heaven” and they truly were, we stayed in the ‘plantation’ cottage, see the link at the bottom for more information.
The Cottage is fully self contained with a beach shack vibe, bohemian decor complete with outdoor shower, (and an interior one for those feeling less bold in winter). Through the french doors to the front deck you look out over a small veggie patch as you listen to the waves crashing on the beach.
Upon arrival they had a cute little sign with our names welcoming us and the lovely owner Joe came around to show us the fruits of his garden, which we were free to graze during our stay. We chatted as we smelt his delicious Vietnamese mint and hunted for snow peas which snapped from the vines in the afternoon sun. He had even made a delicious healthy sweet slice for us resting on a bed a nasturtium leaves. It was all very ideallic.
We spent our days painting, exploring nearby Woolgoolga town and combing the beach for treasure.
I love nothing more then collecting stones smoothed by the power of the ocean and driftwood. I always like to imagine it travelled from somewhere much more exotic then it probably did.
Woolgoolga beach township feels a little how Byron Bay did 10 years ago before it became too popular. A great place to visit with scrummy cafes and the drive from Brisbane through the rolling mountains, small old towns and cane fields is magical, I would recommend hoping off the pacific motorway for a bit and following the brown tourist signs for some photographic moments through the hinterland.
