Australian Getaway to Southern Highlands
If you are taking a trip to the countryside of New South Wales, I cannot recommend the Southern Highlands enough. And if you want somewhere beautifully and relaxing to
stay, then Highland Bray in Wingello is the place to stay.
It is a small cabin perfect for a romantic weekend away and the owners are just lovely and willing to point you in the right direction for a meal or something to do locally, and have built a beautiful garden for you to look out over as you wake up.
Peanut their little Jack Russel pup will greet you as you come up the drive, which is lined with sweet border gardens.
They kindly supplied us with some eggs for the morning and the usual provisions for tea and coffee, as well as warm homemade muffins waiting for us when we arrived.
So we sat in the private little courtyard overlooking the paddock where Donkeys Robbie and Digby live and the pine covered hills beyond. It truly is bliss, especially if like us you stopped off at the local produce market and had some delicious cheeses and wines.
The grounds are full of beautiful planting and small vistas. We visited the ducks and chickens enjoying their evening meal.
The view as you wake up from the garden cabin. Waking up to the gentle sounds of the early birds and walking outside to enjoy the fussy clucking of the hens is just a lovely experience.
The cabin is calmly decorated in classic white and has many books and dvds to enjoy if you don’t feel like going out. But to be honest I could have just sat for hours in the little courtyard, watching the donkeys graze, I found it is the perfect spot to sketch.
Joel and I are heading back to the southern highlands and beyond this year, so even though I usually love to stay new places, this is definitely on my return list.
